Using TomTom Rider

If you are planning a trip then before start driving you can use TomTom Rider as it can be dangerous to plan routes if you are already moving. If you own a TomTom Rider, and don’t know how to use it, then you needn’t to worry as I am going to state all the steps to use TomTom Rider without any issue:

  • Tap on the device’s screen to bring the main menu.
  • On the menu, click on ‘Navigate to’.
  • Then click on ‘Address’.
  • Then you can choose one of the four options i.e. City Center, Street and House number, Postcode, Crossing or Intersection.
  • If you select ‘Street and House number’, type the name of the town where you want to go. A list will be shown that matches the name of your town from which you can select one.
  • In the next screen, type the name of the street. Again, a list will be shown with similar keywords from which you can select one.
  • Next, enter the house number and click on ‘Done’.
  • TomTom Rider will then ask you whether you want to reach the destination at a particular time. From which you can either select yes or no.
  • Tap on yes and enter the arrival time. TomTom Rider will then find out whether you can reach the destination at the arrival time or not.
  • TomTom Rider will then calculate the route. After that, tap on Done.

TomTom Rider will now start guiding you to reach your destination with spoken instructions as well as visual instructions on the screen. The key point here is that, you must plan your route before start driving as it becomes difficult once you start moving. While you are driving, the driving menu will be displayed on the screen.

Driving View

While you are driving, following information will be displayed on the TomTom Rider screen:

  • Zoom In and Zoom Out buttons to zoom the map.
  • Your current position.
  • Name of the roads and road signs.
  • Button to listen last spoken instructions.
  • Arrows from where you have to take turn on the road.
  • Indicator which shows GPS strength signal.
  • Various other information regarding your whole trip.

Finding Alternative Routes:

Once you have successfully found out the best possible route to reach your destination, it may be possible that you may have to take another route due to some reason. For that you have to go to the main menu and select ‘Find Alternative’ to change the route accordingly as after that several options will shown on the next window, from which you have to choose one which are as follows:

  • Calculate Alternative
  • Avoid Roadblock
  • Travel via…( to reach destination through a particular point)
  • Recalculate original
  • Avoid part of route
  • Minimize traffic delays

Using the Map

When you use TomTom Rider to plan your journey, you will get the map according to your starting and destination point. You can place your finger on the screen and drag it to move the map across the screen. You can use it by tapping on ‘Browse Map’ and following information will be displayed on it:

  • Scale Bar
  • Current position
  • GPS button
  • Options button
  • Cursor
  • Find button
  • Cursor button
  • Zoom bar

Favorites

Favorites are certain places where you need to go too often. By creating favorites you need not to enter the address every time you want to go at that particular place.

Select the location which you want to add as favorite. You can create favorite by tapping on Main Menu, then tap on the Arrow, there you will find an ‘Add Favorite’ button. Give any name to your Favorite so that it is easy for you to remember the name of that place.

Points of Interest

Points of Interest or POIs are places on the map which you may find useful many times when you plan your journeys. Some of the examples of POIs are as follows:

  • Restaurants
  • Hotels
  • Museums
  • Parking Garages
  • Gas Stations

You can enable/disable POIs in the preference menu. You can also select the POI categories which you want to display on the map.
